A 10-Month Cultivating Journey

By Alisa Cheung

Amidst COVID-19 spreading in Hong Kong and globally, I was able to be more inclined spiritually through the Holy Mother of God. I was invited to join and visit the SMC Legion of Mary by the recruitment counter. Without much knowledge of any of the Legionary praesidium at SMC, I took an initiative to contact Our Lady of Lourdes praesidium. Despite of my whole month traveling and the fifth wave of the pandemic, I felt truly blessed and am humble to take my Legionary promise in early July.  Throughout my 10-month journey from being a visitor > probationer > active member, I was grateful to have the opportunities to partake at a number of events/activities organised by the Legion of Mary at SMC. Out of many remarkable events/activities, the visit to the Diocese Heritage Museum at the Holy Spirit Seminary on 1 July 2022 was most noteworthy so far.

Our Legionary spirits - when we make our commitments, we keep them even if the weather is stormy and rainy. The weather didn’t jeopardize this invaluable historical and cultural experience visiting the Diocese Heritage Museum. Our faith unwavering, typhoon signal no.8 was not in force till one hour later upon the completion of our visit. The exterior architecture of the Holy Spirit Seminary and its surrounding are graceful, peaceful and spiritual. Before heading to the Museum, we were divided into four smaller groups and were briefed by the organiser comprehensively. The Museum houses many indispensable exhibits, they are meticulously displayed and guarded. The volunteer tour guides were conversant with the Catholic Church development in Hong Kong and Macau. Each of the tour guides was designated at a specific section so as to facilitate the tour efficiently within a time-frame.

Overall, the guided tour was well organised and the volunteer tour guides did a brilliant job. As a fellow Catholic and a Legionary member, I recognise how it is imperative to support and promote our Catholic religion, community and culture. Last but the least, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the event organiser for arranging such meaningful and enriching visit to deepen our faith and knowledge in the development of Catholic Church.

Thanks be to God.
